Day Trip: Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring
If you are only here for a short visit, you can take a day trip to Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring. Take a break from the hot climate and spend a day enjoying a close up view of Mount Kinabalu. Kinabalu Park is home to more than 4,500 species of flora and fauna, including 326 bird and 100 mammal species.
From the cool temperatures at the Kinabalu Park area, down to the warm bath at Poring Hot Spring. The usual swing-by for climbers seeking to rejuvenate trail-weary bodies. The hot sulphuric water here is believed to have healing properties that occurs in nature.
Poring Hot Spring is 40km northeast of Kinabalu Park, as its name suggests, it is a natural hot spring. Swimming pools and individual pools are available for those who wish to take a dip and soak in the hot mineral waters.
Poring is also a place for those in search of rare orchids and unusual plants such as the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia (depend on its availability). The Canopy Walkway at 43m upwards brings you eye-level with the treetops. If you prefer to view beauty from ground level up, there is the Butterfly Farm (which is optional). Several species of butterfly can be found here including some endangered ones.
Attractions In Poring Hot Spring
Poring Hot Spring is a popular local destination for the healing properties of its mineral pools. It has has one of the most outstanding treetop canopy walks in Sabah, and definitely not to be missed. There are also many jungle treks around Poring, and at the end on one jungle trail is a small waterfall. All in all, this is a nice way to spend the day and to see what the locals do for leisure.
Other than the natural hot spring main attraction at Poring Hot Springs, there are also other interesting areas in the park to be visited such as the butterfly farm, the Poring Orchid Conservation Centre, the tropical garden, the Poring canopy walkway, and the Rafflesia flower site.
