Itinerary For 4D3N Sandakan Wildlife Tour
DAY 1: Arrival in Sandakan, Hawksbill Turtles On Selingan Island
Meet and pick up from Sandakan Airport or hotel and transfer to the jetty. At 0930hrs, boat departs to Turtle Island. It takes about an hour to reach Selingan Turtle Island which lies 40km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea off Sabah’s east coast. Selingan Turtle Island is the main nesting area for the Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles.
After Lunch, you are free to enjoy the afternoon on a beautiful tropical island, ideal for relaxing, swimming and snorkeling.
After dinner, prepare to wait for the Park Ranger to inform of the sighting of a turtle laying eggs. Witness the collecting of eggs from the nesting site, planting them in the hatchery and see baby turtles scrambling to the open sea upon released on the shore.
Overnight at Selingan Turtle Island Chalet. Lunch and Dinner is provided on the first day.
Day 2: Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre and Kinabatangan River
Breakfast on Selingan Island before returning to Sandakan by boat at 0700hrs.
Meet our driver and proceed to the world famous Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Upon arrival, a short brief by your guide. Then watch a video show documentary on rehabilitation of orphaned Orang Utan before taking a boardwalk through the lowland rainforest to view the feeding platform. Witness the feeding of Orang Utan at 1000hrs. Break for lunch.
Kinabatangan – Sabah’s Longest River
Depart by boat at 1300hrs to River Lodge. The journey takes approximately 3hrs along Sabah’s longest river, Kinabatangan. Enjoy the panoramic view and opportunity to sight birds and wildlife of Borneo in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitat. Upon arrival welcome drink will be served. Short briefing and check-in. At 1600hrs join a river cruise in search of endemic Proboscis Monkeys, different of birds and other wildlife along the river bank. Return to lodge. Free at leisure.
You may (optional tour-price not included in package) take a night cruise in search of nocturnal animals and birds. Remember to look up at the clear, dark sky of Kinabatangan River, identify the constellations above you and make a wish or two.
Dinner and overnight stay at the River Lodge.
Day 3: Early Morning Cruise Or Jungle Trek and Bird Watching
On Day 3, you have a choice to start your day with an Early Morning Cruise or take the Jungle Trek to Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching. After your morning exploration return to lodge, freshen up and enjoy your late breakfast at Bilit Restaurant.
Free at leisure until Lunch is served at Bilit Restaurant. At 1600hrs join a river cruise in search of more species primates and wildlife along the Kinabatangan River bank.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is provided. Overnight at River Lodge.
Day 4: Sandakan City Tour
Breakfast and check-out. At 0700hrs depart by boat to Sandakan, where we shall proceed with the Sandakan City tour. First visit is the Puh Jih Shih Buddhist Temple, a place that you do not want to miss. It is located on the hilltop overlooking a breathtaking panoramic view of Sandakan Bay.
Next stop is the Sandakan Central Market which consolidates all kind of stalls selling fresh produce to amazing variety of handicrafts, pearls and many more. Last, visit the Sim Sim Water Village where houses are all built on stilts and linked together. Observe the fascinating view of the sea and the local fishermen families with their daily activities.
Enjoy your lunch before transfer and drop-off at Sandakan Airport or Hotel. The Sandakan city tour ends at 1300hrs.
